Acupuncture for Allergies

spring flowersSpring is here, and for many that means allergies are acting up.  Fortunately, acupuncture is a very effective treatment for many allergy sufferers. According to a 2008 randomized study of 981 patients in Berlin, a series of 15 acupuncture treatments over a 3-month time period improved quality of life scores significantly. Participants in the group receiving acupuncture treatment scored three times higher than the control group on the “Rhinitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ).” The treatment group continued to score higher on the RQLQ even 6 months after treatment was completed.

The best time to start acupuncture treatment for allergies is before your symptoms flare up, but it can help anytime. I typically suggest that people start with a series of 10 visits over 6-8 weeks. Often symptoms improve right away and continue to get better throughout the series of treatments. Depending on the case, I may also suggest herbal remedies. Schedule today!
